In the last few weeks of Tata's life, the medication and illness made him say things out of his character. Coffee was his favorite beverage-- it was a part of his daily routine for a large portion of his life.

One morning at the beginning of February, he called me into his den. He asked for clean water and handed me his coffee mug. "This water is no good," he said. I took the mug of cold coffee from him with confusion. 

The next day, he called me into the den again. This time he was angrier. "I've gotta talk to your dad about this. He keeps giving me dirty water," he sighed, pushing the cup on his TV tray. I realized that the beverage he loved so much eventually disgusted him.

Coffee was a part of my dad's daily routine. He would get Tata out of bed and make their morning coffee. Black with a spoon of sugar for Tata. Every time we make coffee, we think about "dirty water."
